WHY PREVAL IN PRIVATE WHEN THE WORLD MAKES SPECTACLE OF DUVALIER??? Former Haiti President Preval testifies in private in case of journalist killed in 2000-Added COMMENTARY By Haitian-Truth

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti –  Former Haitian President Rene Preval is testifying behind closed doors as authorities try to revive the investigation into the long-unsolved killing of the country’s most celebrated journalist.

Preval is being questioned by an investigative judge who is seeking to build a criminal case in the April 2000 slaying of Jean Dominique.

Preval was serving the first of his two terms as president when the crusading journalist was shot to death outside Radio Haiti. Preval and Dominique were friends and political allies who opposed the Duvalier and military dictatorships.

Preval was testifying Thursday in the same courthouse where former dictator Jean-Claude Duvalier is facing criminal charges over his 15-year rule. A hearing was scheduled for Thursday in the Duvalier case but it was not clear whether the former dictator would show up.

What is it with these private sessions – for criminal actions?!!

First time was the pizza delivery style of accommodation for Aristide in conjunction with the $200,000,000, or so, that went missing from his Cooperative operation. There is more than enough real evidence to tie Aristide, criminally, to the operation of these so-called Cooperatives and the theft of the “peoples’ money.” He should have appeared in court, as did Duvalier, to be publicly questioned in this massive criminal case!

The Haitian people, the world must know what is said during these cases!!  This is especially true with the case of Jean Dominique’s assassination, a murder in which there is a very real possibility that both Rene Preval and Jean-Bertrand Aristide were involved.

We are promised transparency, then given another demonstration of smoke-and-mirrors.

  1. There is a rumor to the effect that Claudy Gassant, the guy who investigated Jean Dominique’s murder, is assisting Rene Preval in his preparations for a court appearance. To the naive, it would seem that there is a conflict of interest here.

In fact, Gassant’s participation, in any way, would be improper since he will probably be a key witness.
