Following the agreement signed on 21 September in Petite Rivière de l’Artibonite, between Jean Rodolphe Joazile, the Minister of Defence and Miguel Carvajal Aguirre his Ecuadorian counterpart, Haiti received the visit a group of instructors of Ecuadorian military training schools, whose mission was to proceed, together with officials from the Ministry of Defence, to the recruitment and evaluation of aspiring engineers cadets, of cadets-engineers and of civil engineering technicians to study in Ecuador as fellows of the Haitian State.
Dozens of students graduating in civil engineering from the State University of Haiti (UEH) and other young people from 18 to 28 years, responded to the call launched by the Ministry of Defence in order to recruit the first class of fellows. At the end of exams, of interviews and tests of intellectual ability, psychological and physical, 40 young people were selected.
A first group of 10 students will leave Haiti on October 8, at destination of Ecuadorian military schools for four years of study. In January 2013, 30 other students will leave the country, to attend an intensive training of 10 months.
These young scholarship holders will be trained to be real managers and operators of civil defense, able to supervise effectively the Haitian population, in case of danger resulting from natural hazards, stabilize panic situations and strengthen the national civil defense, priority of the Ministry of Defense, which takes, with these trainings, all the provisions to acquire human resources and technical organizations, not only in the short term, but also in the medium and long term.
