South Florida Rep. Frederica Wilson to Skip State of The Union Address Tuesday

(WTVJ) – As a number of Congressional members and other government officials have said they will not attend President Trump’s first State of the Union address on Tuesday, one South Florida representative who has publicly feuded with Trump is adding her name to the list.

Rep. Frederica Wilson, in an interview with CNN on Monday, said she would not be attending because she does not feel the President “deserves to be honored” based on comments he has made toward the black community.

“Being so hateful towards black people and then black countries, Haiti, and the whole continent of Africa, it hurts, it hurts.” Wilson said. “He has brought the White House to the lowest, and I don’t think he needs to be honored with my presence.”

Trump drew criticism for alleged comments he made during a meeting earlier this month calling Haiti and some African nations “s—hole” countries.

Wilson drew the ire of the Commander in Chief following comments she made criticizing him after the death of Sgt. La David Johnson, a Miami Gardens native who was killed during an attack in Niger in October, saying Trump told Johnson’s widow that “he knew what he was getting into.”

Trump claimed he had “proof” that he did not make those comments, while family members of Johnson confirmed the Congresswoman’s account.
