Secretary-General Appoints Nigel Fisher ( Canada) Deputy Special Representative, Ad Interim, for Haiti-Added COMMENTARY By Haitian-Truth

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has announced the appointment of Nigel Fisher of Canada as his Deputy Special Representative, Ad Interim, for the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).

He will also serve as United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator Ad Interim, succeeding Kim Bolduc of Canada.  The Secretary-General is grateful to Ms. Bolduc for her dedication and service in Haiti, particularly her leadership in the moments immediately following the tragic earthquake of 12 January.

Mr. Fisher brings to the position extensive cross-cultural leadership experience in the fields of international development, human security and child development, with a particular focus on innovative humanitarian and developmental action in conflict and post-conflict situations.  Having joined the Organization in 1977, he recently completed an assignment as Senior United Nations System Representative to the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment in Haiti.

Since 2005, Mr. Fisher has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Canada.  As Assistant Secretary-General, he has also served as Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services and as Deputy Special Representative for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), where he oversaw the Organization’s countrywide humanitarian and reconstruction programmes.

Mr. Fisher has lived and worked in a dozen developing countries in Asia, the Middle East and Africa, and has devoted considerable time to the protection of children affected by armed conflict.

A Canadian national, he is married and has two daughters.

Talk about a “nothing” biography.

And they send this guy to Haiti.

I thought he was from New Zealand.

An embarrassment to Canada.
