As has been the case, in Haiti, since the 1986 departure of Duvalier, ministries are given to leaders of the Class Politique to guarantee their support and give them a source of income – They plunder the ministry’s accounts to varying degrees.
So it is with the Ministry of Public Works. This ministry was given to Edmunde Beauzile, that super powerful, dynamic political leader who amassed a magnificent total of 1700 votes in the last presidential election!!
Wow!!
Beauzile appointed Rosemond Pradel as minister an the rest is history. His only qualification being that he was willing to plunder the ministry’s treasury for himself, and Beauzile.
The Ministry of Public Works effectively ceased functioning as the millions of American dollars available for projects was siphoned off by Beauzile and Pradel.
Beauzile has been more subtle, simply taking her millions and placing it in American bank accounts. She will soon move to live in her expensive New York house, leaving her fellow Haitians to starve, unnoticed.
Beauzile also has her personal gang in La Pleinne numbering something over 50. What political leader, with a massive following of 1700, could function without a heavily armed gang?
On the other hand, Pradel has spoken openly about the fact that he now has enough money and would like to walk away.
Time to do away with the distribution of ministries to the Class Politique!
Time to appoint well qualified patriots who will look after the Nation’s best interests, the interests of Haiti’s millions, not just a chosen few.
Time for Madame Manigat to oversee the creation of a new cabinet, as was agreed to months ago.
Haiti needs a real, functioning cabinet, not a bunch a delaying excuses. Each day that passes sees Haiti slip closer to the “Point of no Return,” at which time it will slide into the abyss.
WHILE WE ARE WAITING – HOW ABOUT INTERDICTION ORDERS AGAINST BEAUZILE AND PRADEL?? THE AMERICANS MIGHT ALSO REQUEST ‘PROOF OF FUNDS’ TO VERIFY THE SOURCE OF CASH USED TO BUY EXPENSIVE PROPERTIES IN THE STATES BY BEAUZILE AND PRADEL. AFTER ALL – MOST OF THE STOLEN CASH WAS PROVIDED BY THE US GOVERNMENT IN THE FIRST PLACE.
