This Wednesday for his first international trip, the mayor of Montreal, Denis Coderre, accompanied by a delegation of his city, began a 4-day mission to Port-au-Prince (March 12 to 15). Organized under the Municipal Cooperation Program (MCP) Haiti-Canada, this mission aims to strengthen political, economic, and cultural ties that unit Montreal and Port-au-Prince, for many years.

“The close collaboration between the City of Montreal, Haiti and our partners has contributed to the redeployment of the administrative apparatus, mainly in the capital. Continuation of PCM demonstrates our ability to jointly implement effective projects to establish services to stable population, which at term will be fully managed by local authorities. Our mission on Haitian soiltherefore aims to continue this collaboration between local governments, the government of Haiti and Montreal,” declared Mayor Denis Coderre.

During his stay, the mayor of Montreal, will perform several meetings with members of the Haitian government, including the President of Haiti Michel Martelly, members of local authorities and representatives of the Canadian Embassy in Haiti.

Moreover, in collaboration with partners in the PCM [Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) and the Union of Municipalities of Quebec (UMQ)], the Mayor and members of the delegation will participate in the official launch of Phase II of the PCM http://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10554-haiti-politic-phase-ii-of-haiti-canada-municipal-cooperation-project.html Visits are also at the Agenda to see the progress of work in Phase I.

Note that Phase II of the PCM provides a new investment of $ 21.4 million, consisting of $ 19.1 million from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and 2.3 million from the FCM, of the City of Montreal and UMQ. From the third year, Haitian partners, should gradually take over and assume certain costs of PCM.

Finally, the mayor Coderre, accompanied by Marc Parent Director of Police of the City of Montreal (SPVM), will meet SPVM officers involved in the United Nations Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (MINUSTAH) and the bike brigade, a project funded by the City of Montreal.
