Here is what I am being told by the experts and please share with your local friends. It is better to evacuate and not need to than wash away out to sea.

The DPC is spreading word on the importance of evacuation. It is getting out slowly, incomplete and people aren’t listening.

Basically anyone within a few miles of the coast needs to evacuate before this hits. This will hit the hardest after dark on Monday most likely, making it even more dangerous. Threat is extremely serious for Haiti.

Devastating rain induced flooding & land/mudslides appear likely … As well as a significant storm surge for coastal areas up to 10 miles inland.  Western Haiti will also be subjected to extremely strong winds.

Surge of 10 ft expected for the south shore, as well large battering waves. Jacmel, les cayes, and everywhere else coastal should move inland. Gulf of Gonave (including Port au Prince) could see surge of 3-5 ft. That may not sound like a lot but it is enough to wipe out entire areas like cite soliel, leogane, goniaves….

Landslide is also a concern and particularly the walls a million people along jalouzie and on the back side over jouvenat.

Bridges will be out, roads blocked for long periods of time by debris and flooding. Electricity and phone lines will be affected.

Unless something drastic happens and it moves again or dissipates, this IS the big one. Please encourage people to evacuate.
