The President of Haiti, Michel Martelly informs that a plane carrying 19 officials of Government of Haiti has made an emergency landing in Cuba. He also reported that the plane landed safely and there were no injuries, but he did not specify the state of emergency.
Damian Merlo, spokesman for the President Martelly said that the turboprop plane had a problem at the level of air conditioning wiring, and that the plane landed as a safety precaution.
The officials are part of a team preparing the visit of Martelly to Cuba from November 15 to 17.
For his part the President of the Republic, Michel Martelly is expected to the international airport José Martí in Havana to 3pm local time.
Martelly has just arrived in Cuba in a brief statement to journalists he said that it is a “pleasure” and a “honor” to be in Cuba, which he described as a “brother country”.
This is the second such incident in less than a week. The latest incident happened in the hills of Kenscoff, a helicopter carrying the Prime Minister, Dr. Garry Conille accompanied of Mr. Thierry Mayard-Paul, Minister of Interior, of Territorial Collectivities and National Defense , and Mr. Laurent Lamothe, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Religious Affairs, had to make an emergency landing in a field of crops due to weather conditions which had rapidly deteriorated.
