Haiti: Ban welcomes setting of date for presidential polls-Added COMMETNARY By Haitian-Truth

René Garcia Préval, President of Haiti

30 June 2010 – Haitian President René Préval has set 28 November as the date for the people of the earthquake-devastated nation to vote for his successor, a move welcomed today by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Presidential decrees issued last Thursday and yesterday have also mandated that the Provisional Electoral Council organize legislative polls on that date.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mr. Ban called on the Haitian Government, the Provisional Electoral Council, political parties and all Haitians to “ensure that the upcoming elections are transparent and credible and serve to reinforce Haiti’s democratic institutions as the country strives to recover from the worst humanitarian crisis in its history.”

More than 200,000 people were killed in the 12 January earthquake, which left 1.3 million more homeless and destroyed countless buildings, including Government facilities, hospitals and schools.

“The Secretary-General reiterates the United Nations’ commitment to provide comprehensive support to the Haitian authorities in the preparation and conduct of the elections,” the statement said.

The UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) have already started providing security, logistical and technical assistance for the elections.

In his latest report to the Security Council on Haiti, Mr. Ban said that elections are central to the Government’s vision for a renewed State, a vision he appealed to the international community to support.

In his statement today, he encouraged UN Member States – especially those taking part in the international task force supporting the polls – to provide the financial resources needed for elections as swiftly as possible.

COMMENT: HAITIAN-TRUTH.ORG

Secretary General Ban is a hypocrit as his Special Representative in Haiti, Edmund Mulet, tells his friends and associates that,,actual quote..   “THERE WILL BE NO ELECTION.”

Secretary General Ban was/is under the influence of Michele Montas, an ex-Preval mistress, widow of Jean Dominique and UN spokeswoman, until the Americans forced her out. She was complicit with Preval in her husband’s murder.

Montas has Ban saying “Preval is the only hope for Haiti.”  This has become the United Nations general policy, with regards to Haiti.

Because of this hypocrisy, he has poisoned the waters and his Special Representative with MINUSTAH, Edmund Muletm is tasked with the job of derailing the November 28 elections.

If, by some fluke, we manage to have a real election, and Preval is replaced by a real president…this new guy should give some thought to reining in the UN or asking that they depart –  immediately!!

The UN has no place in Haiti.

  1. The MINUSTAH troops are a sight to behold, riding around in their massive white trucks sitting in two rows, each facing inward, holding assault rifles and wearing German style helmets. One is reminded of German troops during World War Two, riding through the streets of Paris.

There is little to no communication between the MINUSTAH forces and the Haitian public.

The UN should leave Haiti immediately.
