PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) – France’s ambassador to Haiti, Didier Le Bret, was recalled by his government after three years in Haiti. He will serve as director of his country’s crisis center Quai d’Orsay. He bid farewell with a party at his residence located in the hills of CanapĂ©-Vert, Monday, Dec. 17, 2012.
Several personalities of the country have increased their presence at this ceremony, including the Governor of the Bank of the Republic of Haiti Charles Castel, President Michel Martelly, the Minister of Tourism, Stephanie Villedrouin, the writer Lyonel Trouillot, director of novelist, Max E. Chauvet, the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Auza Bernadito, and musician Belony Murat “Belo”. In a festive atmosphere, the guests had paid tribute to the Ambassador of France, who will soon leave us. Local dishes have the pleasure palaces of many guests.
In an emotionally charged atmosphere befitting such meetings farewell speech extolled the personal and professional qualities of the Ambassador Le Bret, who for three years has tried to boost cooperation between Haiti and France.
“From my first steps in Haiti, I felt confident with you. Of course, I realize that through me, it was also the plenipotentiary of France you want to pay tribute. But soon, in our personal and professional relationships, I could see how much your friendship was sincere, profound and, I know, durable. Today, I left more than a country, I left friends,” said the diplomat.
Deeply moved, Mr. Le Bret thanked his colleagues for their support, which facilitated his mission. “Thank you for your support, your commitment, and most importantly your friendship. In your contact, I also learned a lot: Haiti transforms those who inhabit it. It makes us better, more humble, and frankly more human. Be nice, do not forget me when you are visiting Paris, show you, but do not make me come back too soon. That would be bad news for Haiti darling,” said the diplomat.
