04.30.2013: FOPARK announces start of Fanmi Lavalas electoral campaign on Radio Kiskeya
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) – The different sectors of Fanmi Lavalas will converge on the Palace of Justice on Wendesday May 8 according to FOPARK representatives who declared the mobilization to accompany former President Jean Bertrand Aristide, the start of the campaign.
In a press conference, the Patriotic Force for Respect of the Constitution (FOPARK) estimated the convocation of Jean Bertrand Aristide by Judge Ivikiel Dabrezil would be an attempt by the Martelly administration to disqualify the popular Lavalas party from the upcoming elections.
Biron Odige, FOPARK official, said that if Aristide is engaged in a criminal case, he can’t possibly sign as the head of the Fanmi Lavalas party which would make the platform unable to participate.
The group also urged for a peaceful protest on May 8 at the Palace of Justice. Thimothe said that protesters should tuck in their shirts and not carry any sharp objects. He warned of alleged efforts by the Martelly administration to label Fanmi Lavalas as a wreckless mob to justify their disqualification from elections.
Finally, at the press conference, it was recalled the claims of rampant corruption at the National Palace and within the Martelly-Lamothe administration. Democratic sectors urge the international community to break their solidarity with the administration in place or be regarded as accomplice to the acts of President Michel Martelly and Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe.
The provisional electoral council, CTCEP, has not submitted the electoral law or calendar for upcoming elections.
