Arcade Fire, which will bring Saturday to a close late tonight on Coachella’s main stage, has long championed Haiti causes even before the devastating earthquake that hit the region a little more than a year ago. Heard the band’s “Haiti”?

Since they started touring with Neon Bible, the band has donated $1 for every ticket t-shirt sold to Partners for Health with a focus on Haiti help. No proceeds from Coachella tickets are going to the group, but the band has brought it’s fundraising effort to Coachella by selling $25 tickets and stickers and buttons. Coachella goers who make any kind of donation is weekend get a chance to win one of three autographed playlists.

Regine Chassagne of Arcade Fire who is also married to the band’s Win Butler, may have been born in Montreal but her parents are both Haitian. But what inspired the band to partner with Partners in Health was reading “Mountains Beyond Mountains,” said Brande Jackson, the band’s campaign coordinator who was setting up the booth Friday night coming off the band’s recent appearance in Las Vegas.

Word of advice – don’t ask Brande where you can fill up your water bottle or buy a sweatshirt, she doesn’t know (more than one person thought her’s was an information booth in the short time I stood there talking with her).

The band hopes to introduce the campaign to a new audience at Coachella since not everyone in attendance is a die-hard fan – although after they perform tonight, that could change.
