Port-au-Prince’s Champs des Mars, directly in front of the palace saw a band named OPPOSITION play to a rowdy crowd, fueled with clairin and cocaine.
The resulting chaos saw 16 people murdered which is something of a record. The 2014 Carnival saw 3 people die. One fell under the wheels of a float. One suffered a heart attack while the other was punched, in a fight.
2015 presents the perfect opportunity to embarrass the Martelly government, and opposition groups are funneling cash, clairin and drugs into the program.
The Champs des Mars is an area that hosts thousands of people, day and night, with carnival adding many more to the mix. It will require few agitators to create a murderous disaster.
Then the fat is in the fire.
Violence will accelerate into a daily threat.
Martelly will be in trouble.
At the moment Michel Martelly holds the vast majority of those who will vote. Remember, over 54% of the population is younger than 24.
Sweet Mikey, Michel Martelly, President Martelly must not lose sight of the game in play. Bad people want to remove him without having a valid concept to replace the power.
As a side issue, JACMEL saw a lot of chaos last night, with many fires and burning tires.
PNH had told us 16 were lost.
The real total is 4.
Still too many. Last year only 3 died in entire weekelong celebrations. One was squashed by wheels of a display float. Another had a heart problem.
This year 3 simple murders is too much for a singular night.
