  1. The Channel 68 news at 8PM showed the burned market.

More importantly, it showed the many destroyed lives, as everything these people owned was burned by the criminal elements.

We also saw a number of terribly burned market ladies who had been splashed with gasoline, thrown by the terrorists who then set them on fire.

Benoit, and his friends, should be shot.

Better yet, they should be doused with gasoline and lit with a match.

  2. There is little security with many bodies discovered on our streets each morning.

    Some simply disappear.

  3. Updated, Marche du Port, not Iron Market.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) – An explosion at the Maritime and Navigation Service of Haiti building set off a fire that overtook the two-story government structure and the Marche du Port next door.

Reports are mixed. A merchant told the Haiti Press Network that 3 had died and several were injured. The Associated Press quoted Gue Verlien of the Civil Protection Department who said there were no deaths but 31 injuries.

The fire was caused by a combustible combination of Clorox and fertilizer according to what Verlien told the AP, which is also what was reported by the HPN, “chemical explosion.” But Nadia Lochard, another official, of the Civil Protection Department said police were still investigating the exact cause of the explosion.

Haitian firefighters, police and United Nations soldiers were on the scene trying to subdue the blazes. Although May 30, 2013 was declared a public holiday many merchants were working at the Marche du Port at the time.

Witness Abel Wilson said he heard a loud bang just before the fire broke out. He also said he saw medical workers treat at least two people for severe burn wounds before an ambulance took them to a hospital for further treatment.

“I was busy selling clothes and suddenly heard a boom,” said Wilson, a 26-year-old merchant who works in the market that was damaged. “Next thing I know, I see the flames coming and I started running. I ran for my life.”
