It is truly sad to look back across the 33 years to the time when we had law-and-order, infrastructure, a large assembly industry, tourism, investment AND A HAITIAN DOLLAR = AMERICAN DOLLAR with – perhaps, a 5% variation. Of course, in some foreign eyes, and a few radical Haitians, we didn’t possess that vague dream DEMOCRACY!
BUT WE DID HAVE HOPE, COUPLED TO THE KNOWLEDGE THAT – WHEN WE WOKE UP TOMMOROW MORNING WE WOULD STILL POSSESS WHAT WE OWNED WHEN WE WENT TO SLEEP.
THIS IS NO LONGER THE CASE.
BUT WE HAVE DEMOCRACY!
DEMOCRACY HAS NO CALORIES!!!
Our 12,000,000 are really represented by no one. Once someone is elected, or simply steals the election through CEP pressures or corruption, they forget their area and move to Port-au-Prince where they enjoy a series of mistresses and Land Cruisers, coupled to the millions stolen via their offices..
Just look at our Senate, and Chamber of Deputies.
With very few exceptions – have become millionaires the easy way – BY STEALING FROM THE STATE TREASURY!
After the last election someone formed THE GROUP OF NINE……… which should have been called THE MINUTE MINORITY … comprising 9 political parties that accumulated a total of less than 15% of the vote, when their supporters were added together.
Jean Henry Ceant got fewer than 0.75% of the votes!!
If I remember correctly, the powerful, powerful, popular Lavalas – according to foreign media reporters managed something like 9.1% of the overall total.
President Jovenel Moise has just experienced the collapse of the Ceant Prime Ministership when the corruption of certain members stole a fortune from our meager treasury. In one swipe 950,000,000 gourdes was gobbled and no one has asked for an accounting!
In real American Dollars this is more than $12,000,000!!
Even as this smash and grab robbery was taking place, Gary Bodeau masterminded a bank robbery of some 195,000,000 gourdes, over three months, with an expensive lunch program for his Chamber of Deputies.
No one has been arrested!
Of course Youri’s command of ONA sees long-term multi-million dollar loans, at a few percent interest, for relatives, and friends, that will never be repaid. Within 18 months all of the paperwork will have disappeared, if it hasn’t already happened, and the loans will simply not exist.
I mean, a 33 year loan to a Youri Latortue relative who is something like 80 years old now!!!!
Now, people from this MINUTE MINORITY are holding up the Democratic Process by demanding control of certain major Cabinet positions so the pillage can continue.
Imagine someone whose political party is made up of a handful of people demanding control of Finance, Culture, Commerce, Plantification, Traveaux Public, ONA, OFNA, APN, Douane….or one of the other money-makers?????. They can do this simply because the International Community, led by our innocent/naïve American brothers and sisters, demand that President Moise sit down with this unrepresentative band of criminals, in an effort to create a government that is supposed to save us from our present disastrous situation.
SHEER STUPIDITY!!
AND THE PEOPLE JOVENEL IS SITTING WITH ARE HATED, HATED, HATED BY THE 12,000,000 HAITIANS THEY CLAIM TO REPRESENT!!!
Jovenel won the elections –TWICE!!!
President Moise will ultimately – personally – be blamed for whatever happens over the following months, if another Criminal Cabinet is created. And – whatever the justification – President Moise will be responsible for what we see as a predictable collapse, perhaps by October – if he continues to allow himself to be walled in by a handful of incompetent advisors, with personal agendas, out of step with National Needs!
Our President, your President, the Nation’s President must be allowed to pick a new Cabinet from the best talent Haiti has to offer. He cannot allow himself to be dictated to by others who march to drummers that are out of step with our National Need.
When someone is buying a Haitian painting there is a point at which – if the proper price is not reached – the potential buyer must simply walk away.
President Moise is at this point. A Win or Lose Point!
If I was sitting in today’s Circus of idiots, all pressing for personal gain, I would select a Cabinet of truly qualified people and then present to to the Nation – to the International Community – with a public statement to the effect:
“MY FELLOW HAITIANS, WE HAVE BEEN PLACED IN THIS IMPOSSIBLE SITUATION THROUGH THE INTERFERENCE AND SELFISHNESS OF A FEW. IT IS TIME TO REVERSE THIS COURSE AND SAVE THE FUTURE FOR YOU, YOUR CHILDREN, AND YOUR CHILDRENS’ CHILDREN.
IT IS TIME TO SAVE OUR NATION.
WITHOUT MY PERSONAL AUTHORITY TO SELECT AND OVERSEE A TRULY COMPETENT CABINET – DRAWN FROM ALL SECTORS – I CANNOT DO MY JOB AND WILL BE FORCED TO RESIGN.”
When you point a gun at someone, they must believe you are willing, and about to pull the trigger. Otherwise, you should not be in the game.
President Jovenel Moise must remember this and think of what Clint Eastwood would do in our present situation.
