GUY PHILIPPE – A FORMIDABLE CANDIDATE FOR TODAY – AND THE FUTURE

August 22, 2015
Guy Philippe is a left-over from an earlier age. He is a patriot, with a social conscience.

As a run-away winner in the Senatorial race, in Grande Anse,  he said that he would rather step aside than “benefit on the blood of the Mob.”Most would “smother their mothers” in order to gain an advantage, or political office.

Most have forgotten what Guy Philippe has done for the Nation.

In 2004 he led a small band that swept the Nation, to remove Aristide from dictatorial control of Haiti. Most have forgotten that Aristide stole the 2000 election with fewer than 20,000 voting throughout the entire Nation. It was a nearly bloodless operation, with villagers welcoming Guy, and his band, as the swept Aristide’s criminals away.

With Aristide’s departure, the Americans offered  Guy a bundle of money, for an ONG they suggested he create, with the proviso that he stay out of politics.

Had the requirements of Article 149, of the Constitution been honored, Guy Philippe would have become President. At that moment, Guy Philippe was Haiti’s most popular person.

Delayed elections – with the Latortue government as an intervening disaster –  saw Guy Philippe drowned by candidates with more money.

In hindsight, Guy should have accepted the American offer– temporarily – but he declined and set out to create a political party – The Front.

And then, Rene Preval added Guy’s name to a group of people the DEA wanted to grab, focused on the Mayor of Miragoane.   Black, unmarked helicopters dropped near his house, backed up by jeeploads of ground forces.

Guy was not there, but his wife and children were roughed up.

Since that time Guy Philippe has endured an ongoing harassment from the American embassy, even when he offered to undergo a polygraph to disprove their claims.

Guy Philippe  has spent the last 10 years struggling to create schools, and assist his community, with the limited resources available to him.

With Guy Philippe’s election to the Haitian Senate  his Nation, our Nation  will, once again, benefit from his insight and determination.

Guy will be a formidable player, in the forthcoming government.

He is truly a charismatic leader with exceptional support from Haiti’s vast majority.

In time, he may well gain the President’ chair.

Better late, than never…. Is an old saying that suits the situation.

  1. Are you serious? When the day arrives that Guy Philippe is seen as a savior for Haiti, Haiti is finished. Surely Haiti can do better than someone with such a disturbing past-“Whatever I have done in the past, I would do in the future”. Al-Jazeera Interview with Guy Phillip in 2010.

    1. Shiela.
“Whatever I have done in the past, I would do in the future.”

Even I would say that, personally. What Guy is saying simply reflects that he has acted in parallel with his conscience and patriotism.

One cannot listen to, and believe many negative things that are said about people, in the Haitian scene. To do so would see Aristide as a Saint, and Mother Teresa as a Devil.

Guy Philippe, and a few dozen others, provided the impetus that removed Aristide from his dictatorship. Look at the new article by WHITMAN – an American Embasy spokesman, during the Aristide period.

I suppose you might say he is not to be accepted either.

My money is on Guy Philippe.

  2. Guy Philippe was abandoned by those he helped.
Any Apaid was in daily contact with Guy Philippe, and Jodel Chamblain, until he was sure Aristide was finished.

    Then, not another call.

    Apaid is the criminal.

Guy and Jodel were the patriots.

    Good people finish last.
