The German Embassy in Port-au-Prince has announced that the German government had allocated an additional amount of €8 million (over US $ 9 million) for the project “Rehabilitation of the Hydroelectric Plant of Péligre”. This is in addition to the €20 million already allocated a total of 28 million.
On the German side, the project is led by the Development Bank (KfW) as part of bilateral financial cooperation with Haiti, and funding is made available as a grant.
This additional funding is due to the considerable increase in costs due to the complexity of the work needed on the 3 turbines of the plant, following the decision taken jointly by the parties, not to empty the lake of Péligre because of its importance for irrigation in the Artibonite, which causes expensive underwater work…
Recall that the rehabilitation of the central Péligre is a Project co-funded by three donors : The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID OPEC) nd Germany. On the Haitian side, is the Electricity of Haiti (EDH) and the Ministry of Public Works, who are the responsibles.
