He’s already the president of Haitian konpa music, and now Michel Martelly, aka Sweet Micky, may be seeking another kind of presidential office — that of his native Haiti.

Martelly is the latest celebrity to eye the upcoming Nov. 28 presidential balloting in quake-shattered Haiti, confirming to The Miami Herald that he’s “getting my papers ready” for a run.

Martelly isn’t the only musician with his eyes on the presidential palace. Several sources told The Herald Thursday that Hip-Hop star Wyclef Jean, who is in Haiti, officially announced his intentions in a series of meetings. He has lawyers working on his documents.

Jean’s uncle, Haiti Ambassador to the U.S. Raymond Joseph, will also be a candidate. He reportedly sent his resignation to Haitian President René Préval a few days ago.

Candidates can officially begin filing Sunday. A nine-member electoral council will then determine who is qualified to run under Haitian law.

Martelly said he is busy preparing his candidacy: “I’ve put together a team and if I can put all the elements together, most likely I will run.”

He said his goal is to be “someone who inspires people. I want to change things in Haiti.”

  1. Wyclef perhaps….

    But Sweet Mickey??!!!

Not that popular, other than as a signer and with too many powder connections…

  2. Wycleff Jean, is a fabric of the ….He will win if…
However, there will be no such election this year in Haiti. Maybe, assasinations will cover up all around.

Be prepared for the Genocide. Dominican Republic is ready to take over officially in a case of massacre wich is already designed by the…

How sad is the situation of the poor in Haiti? What did they do against God to be living as animals even in 2010?

Haitians have no rights at all.

In the case of any conflict between Iran and the US, what will be the position latin american countries associated with Venezuela, Iran, Cuba, Bolivia, Panama, Nicaragua, Mexico, even Brazil? What will happen among troops in the midst of Minustah?

Haiti is a key point for everything nowadays. Could you understand that?

Because Haiti is so little in everything, it will create the path of punishment for everyone. Good luck everyoboby!

    1. If you are going to comment, please finish your sentences.
Otherwise, your point is lost……….because we are not in your head.

  3. That is very ridiculous. Wyclef Jean should finish his bachelor degree at Berklee before he can becomes president. He is talking about using his songs to make policy. What type of policy does he want to make? You have to know about policy to make policy otherwise as he already mentioned, since he doesn’t know anything about policymaking, he is going to embrace Bill Clinton plan for Haiti. Come on now, we do have some intellectuals in Haiti with experience and proven records. What about Jacques Eduard Alexis? what happens to the Haitian people? come guys, let’s think and let’s have a face a face intellectual conversation.

    1. Alexis is a thief, and there is recorded proof of this. I worked in the Justice System, and recall this case, as he was our PM. He stole many vehicles, and some money also.

  4. There is a hollow in the political system in haiti now. Our intellectual and political class in haiti have not done anything for the last 200 years, they prefer corruption instead of having the county moving in the right direction. Now it is time to slap all of them with a singer. The haitian people seem to be tired of them too.

  5. My prayer is for my God through my Lord Jesus Christ to raise a righteous man of God to be a leader so the people in Haiti can turn away from darkness and comes to the light of Jesus Christ. Haiti’s problem is beyond humans capacity, only God can sets the people and the country free from darkness. This voodoo practices in Haiti have crippled the country and the people into poverty for years, the bible says “all nations that forget will turn to hell”. And when the righteous rules the people are happy; but when the wicked rules the people perish.

  6. After the earthquake i was expecting some kind of change but apparently things are going worst each &&evryday. I Have never seen so many people run for the presidency. && we come down 2 Sweet Mickey, this is not a joke. s

    1. Jean who? Wyclef, Ceant or ???? If you mean Wyclef, get over it. He is un-educated, and has zero integrity, if you look at how he managed Yele Haiti…
