Prime Minister Garry Conille may be on the slippery slide to obscurity and he fumbles the ball at a critical moment.
And, Martelly has transferred the main Carnival from Port-au-Prince to Arcahaie up the coast from the population center.
Port-au-Prince was still going to have a celebration but, as of 8:21 P.M. Thursday, with celebrations on Sunday, the Martelly has not released funds for the city’s celebration. The mayor says the event will be cancelled by 2:30 tomorrow if he does not have the funding. He has already started to tear down grandstand.
Even with the money tomorrow, how can a major even be planned within a day??
The Archaie event already has the potential of disaster, written all over it. The town is miles away from the population and Carnival is really an event for Haiti’s poor and this is the segment that put Martelly in the palace. It is almost as though Martelly wants to irritate his base and the Carnival fiasco may provide a fuse to the powder keg.
The last couple of weeks have seen an ongoing inability to coordinate anything.
