Haiti - Tourism : Signature of an agreement between Haiti and «Tourism Montreal»

Thursday, Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism, the Mayor of Montreal, Denis Coderre and Yves Lalumiere, CEO of “Tourism Montreal” have signed a Memorandum of Agreement for a period of 2 years for the implementation of activities for the development of tourism in Haiti.

“The areas of cooperation of this agreement, concern initiatives aimed at developing tourism destinations in Haiti, based on the potential of the country in terms of tourism, natural resources, culture, local history, the accompaniment of the organizations in the implementation of certain initiatives and their supervision at the level of management of their projects, the promotion of tourism, cruises, tours and related products.

[…] the supervision of executives of Tourism Montreal, in term of tourism development,prepare an annual events calendar, create a touristic bridge between the city of Montreal and Port-au-Prince, so that Quebeckers can adopt Haiti as a tourist destination and vice versa.”

During his meeting with the members of the Montreal delegation, the Minister praised the excellent cooperation of Quebec with Haiti in tourism training and advocated collaboration aimed at enhancing the visibility of the “authentic Haiti” internationally, noting “our greatest need is to care the country’s image.”

Furthermore Friday, the Minister of Tourism met with the Mexican Chancellor José Antonio Meade Kuribreña who was accompanied by Mexican Ambassador Jose Luis Alvaro Gonzalez and Jose Antonio Ortega, Director General of the “Fondo Nacional de Fomento al Turismo” (FONATUR ), the institution responsible for the planning and development of tourist projects in Mexico. During this meeting the Minister Villedrouin presented the development plan for the South Coast and discussed investment projects in tourism and road infrastructure in Haiti. It was agreed to promote connection between (closer) the Haitian authorities with the Mexican public and private sectors to contribute to the development of the tourism sector in Haiti.
