Another reason for President Moise to rewrite the Constitution.
Get rid of very expensive 30 positions that always seem to – with few exceptions – harbor major criminals.
Our present document gives Senators immunity from prosecution. If a Senator is suspected of doing something criminal, he remains outside the accepted legal system.
The Senate sits in judgment of their fellow Senator.
Not too constructive since our Senate is a group of post-graduate level criminals who steal cash wherever it might be. They have raped PSUGO in partnership with Education Minister Nesmy Manigat. They have pillaged Affaires Sociales. ONA has hemorrhaged at their rough caress.
The DEA always points to the 2007 moment when a boat, owned by Joseph Lambert, declared an emergency off the coast near Tiburon.
When MINUSTAH arrived, and boarded the vessel, they discovered 14 of Lambert’s close associates, and 714 kilos of cocaine. The 14 were arrested and the DEA wanted to move against Lambert.
SENATORIAL IMMUNITY!!
And so, the Senate held and inquiry and – surprise – found their associate innocent.
Immunity is one thing that must be erased from the replacement Constitution. If a sitting American Senator is suspected of a crime, he would face a trial. At this moment, a senior American Senator Menandez is about to be tried on a series of corruption charges.

The fact that no one does anything about Haitian Senate crimes has made the Senators become even bolder. Even as they were attacking President Moise with a bundle of false claims, about his PETROCARIBE involvement, the Senate was conniving with local businessmen to create phony transactions that saw millions bled off into the Senators’ personal accounts, and those of the criminal businessmen.
We hear that “Generators” and “Furniture” were supposedly purchased, with millions of American dollars in government funds, but not delivered.
Cash was divided between Senators and businessmen.
This wouldn’t be a subject of discussion under either Duvalier. We have truly lost our integrity since 1986.
Senator Youri Latortue, and the Senate, are not the only criminals in this corruption game. The concept of buying “Generators” and never taking delivery is not a new one. This sort of transaction must have two partners to complete the dance.
GREED IS GREAT!!
Those businesses who have cheated the State, in this way, should be forced to deliver the merchandise, refund the money or be barred from any further business with the government. In real life, this puritan concept might force the Government of Haiti to buy everything from foreign sources.
So let’s just force refunding of the cash involved, or delivery of the non-delivered items. And, we should publish the names of all involved. Let the taxpayers know what is happening to the Nation’s finances.
At this moment, our President is surrounded, in the Palace, by many who have other agendas than the successful completion of Jovenel’s term, our term, the Nation’s Presidential term.
President Moise is doing his best to return Haiti to at least its pre-1986 level of corruption.
This is a tremendous threat to what has become the Status Quo … following the old Creole proverb: “This isn’t stealing. It’s a way of making a living.”
JOVENEL’S EFFORTS ARE LIKE A FLICKERING CANDLE, IN A DARKENED ROOM.
IT WILL TAKE VERY LITTLE TO REVERSE THE PROCESS AND SEND US BACK INTO THE DARKENED PAST.
THE NATION’S MAJORITY MUST SUPPORT PRESIDENT MOISE AGAINST THE CRIMINALS IN OUR MIDST.
