Qatar Haiti Fund to rebuild University

Washington: The Chairman of Qatar Fund for the Reconstruction of Haiti (Qatar Haiti Fund) Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi has signed an agreement with Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation to finance the reconstruction of the University of Haiti for Science and Engineering in the city of Port-au-Prince, which includes the faculties of engineering, physics, chemistry, mathematics and natural sciences.

The agreement was signed for the Foundation side by the former US President Clinton’s Special Representative and the Deputy Director of Foundation’s Office Gregory Millon.

The signing of the agreement was attended by the Legal Representative of the Board of Trustees of Qatar’s Haiti Fund Robert Wurman.

Under the agreement, the university, completely destroyed by 2010 earthquake, will be able to grant opportunities for more than 1,200 students who are currently receiving study in temporary buildings in the capital, Port-au-Prince.

HE Al Rumaihi said in a statement after the signing of the agreement, that the motives of the State of Qatar in the reconstruction of the university are humanitarian motives and will be added to the contributions of Qatar’s fund for the reconstruction of what was destroyed by the 2010 earthquake that killed more than 365,000 people in the Republic of Haiti and destroyed its infrastructure and institutional structure.

Qatar have pledged a total of $20m for the Haiti Fund.
