Haiti - Politic : Official launch of 50 sports academies across the country

Monday, the government officially launched the implementation of 50 social and sports academies spread throughout the national territory. Three ministries are involved in this vast project and their ministers were present at the launch: Wilson Laleau (Economics), Jimmy Albert (Sport) and Ariel Henry (Social Affairs). Besides these Ministers were present the national coach, the French Patrice Neveu and Dr. Yves Jean Bart, President of the Haitian Football Federation (FHF), designer of this project whose objectives are as numerous as generators of hope for youth of the country.

10,000 young people, at 200 per center, will be impacted by the establishment of these academies supervised by the Physical and Sporting Activities Department (DAPS) of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Civic Action (MJSAC) and mobilizing hundreds of managers and technicians including those of the National Institute of Youth and Sport Sciences (INJESS) already present in the different departments. According to Jimmy Albert, the creation of these social sports academies will facilitate social diversity and promote exchange between young people and their parents.

Under the pact for employment and inclusive economic growth, 120 million gourdes will be injected by the Government in the Haitian sports including $ 100 million for football and 20 million for other sporting disciplines in the country. According to the Minister Laleau, this envelope of 100 million will enable among others to support the sector and make it functional fifty socio-sports academies throughout the country. Furthermore, youth of Academies will benefit from a balanced diet and medical assistance with the involvement of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour and the Ministry of Public Health and Population.

In addition to this financial contribution from the Government, Hans P. Garoute, the CEO of the INDEPCO, an important member of the private sector working in textiles, was assigned the production of 100,000 uniforms to dress young, under a new local brand “KANSON WOUJ” whose emblem is a bird that we can only find in Haiti, in the pine forest.
