Multi-Institutional Meeting on Planning and Transparency

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (sentinel.ht) – PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (sentinel.ht) – Engagements to review the status of international aid to Haiti, identify their targets and implement methods to improve efficiency and guarantee transparency were held through a series of meetings convening representatives of some of Haiti’s international partners, including the U.S. State Department, USAID, United Nations, European Union, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Inter-American Development Bank, Embassies of Canada and France, at the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation.

On the part of the Haitian State, taking part in the discussions that began Thursday were, Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe as Minister of Planning and External Cooperation (MPCE), the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), National Commission on Government Procurement (NTB), General Directorate of Taxation (DGI), Unit for Combating Corruption (ULCC ), and General Administration of Customs (GAC).

Organization representing the International Community were the United States Agency for International Development, U.S. Department of State, United Nations, World Bank, Embassy of Canada, Embassy of France, European Union, International Monetary Fund and Inter-American Development Bank.

The MPCE, in a statement, said that the meetings were held “because of the constant concern of the Government to strengthen state structures to combat corruption in all its forms and to consolidate public finances.”

Also, the ministry noted that “it is important to remember that many efforts have already been made by the Government that, in the interests of transparency and good governance, has made available to everyone through social networks all information relating to different social actions by the Martelly Adminsitration and Lamothe Government.
