Haiti - Diplomacy : Martelly in Panama

On Tuesday, the President Michel Martelly, accompanied by among others, Wilson Laleau, Minister of Trade and Industry and the Ambassador of Haiti in Panama, Philippe Archer, attended in the Panamanian capital, in the presence of several Heads of State at the inauguration ceremony of newly elected President of the Republic of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela.

The Head of State has first congratulated President Varela for his victory in the last election and reiterated his willingness to deepen relations between Haiti and Panama with the same spirit that had animated his relationship with President Martinelli.

The day before, President Varela received the Head of State of Haiti around cooperation between the two countries. There was talk among other on these priority issues: trade and economic cooperation, promotion and reciprocal protection of investments, mutual support in international and regional forums, continuation of the implementation of the agreement on the facilitation of the movement of Haitian traders in Panama and the regularization of the situation of illegal Haitians working in the country.

On Monday, the President Martelly also met Panamanian businessmen around of opportunities for trade and development with Haiti as well as Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou, with whom he discussed the reform and modernization of the Haitian government, the prevention and management of hazards natural, energy cooperation and reconstruction.
