LAVALAS USE LABOR AS WEAPON TO DESTABILIZE JOVENEL GOVERNMENT WITH NO CONCERN FOR WORKERS INVOLVED

Haiti - Economy : Dismissal of workers, Interamerican Wovens S.A explains

In an explanatory note, the textile company Interamerican Wovens S.A., which employs more than 1,300 workers and more than 200 executives, recalls that on 19 May individuals acting on behalf of the GOSTTRA-CTSP union started an illegal strike without complying with the procedure laid down in the Labor Code, putting pressure on workers http://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-20989-haiti-flash-workers-forced-to-take-the-street-companies-close.html and as a result of various incidents, the Company has taken the decision to suspend the employment contract of these individuals, according to the law.

“[…] Interamerican Wovens S.A., clearly recognizes the right of every worker to the association and the legal strike, in accordance with the procedures provided for in the Labor Code. The company also recognizes the right of every worker to meet freely with others in a suitable place to manifest peacefully, always in compliance with the law. However, a self-respecting company can not authorize a trade union assembly to meet other people within a factory to start a demonstration on the basis of stone throwing, intimidation, crushing barriers and hitting other workers to get them out and go on the streets with them.

Faced with this, the administration of SONAPI and the National Police have taken measures to manage the excesses committed by these intolerant and radical behaviors. We witnessed and held videos demonstrating a correct and respectful accompaniment of the workers by police officers who acted with moderation to protect the goods, workers and investments.
