Just How Corrupt Is The Caribbean?-Haiti again took the title of most corrupt nation

News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri.  Feb. 1, 2019: Just how corrupt is the Caribbean region in the eyes of Transparency International, the global civil society organization leading the fight against corruption for the past 25 years?

Definitely not as corrupt as many African countries as well as Afghanistan and even neighboring Venezuela, but the region is definitely not without perceived corruption. TI recently came out with its latest perceived corruption list for 2018, which ranks 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption according to experts and businesspeople, uses a scale of 0 to 100, where 0 is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean. More than two-thirds of countries score below 50 on this year’s CPI, with an average score of just 43. Here’s how the countries from the Caribbean stacked up from the least corrupt to the most:

1: Barbados

Listed at 25thglobally and first in the Caribbean with 68 points, it is perceived as the least corrupt nation in the Caribbean region and holds pretty steady from 2017.

2: The Bahamas

The Bahamas is deemed the second least corrupt nation in the Caribbean, listed at 29thglobally with 65 points, the same as 2017.

3: Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

Coming in at third is Saint Vincent and the Grenadines with a score of 58, but ranking lower globally at 41.

4: Dominica

The fourth least corrupt country in the region is Dominica, ranking at only 45thglobally, however, with a score of 57,

5: Saint Lucia

Taking the fifth spot is Saint Lucia with a global rank of 50 and a score of 55.

 

6: Grenada

Sixth on the Caribbean corruption list is Grenada, with a global rank of 53 and a score of 52.

Taking the seventh spot of the TI Perceived Corruption list is Cuba, with

Ranking at eighth on the Caribbean Perceived Corruption list for 2018 is Jamaica with a score of 44 and a global rank of 70.

9: Suriname

The fifth most corrupt nation in the Caribbean is Suriname, with a rank of 73 globally and a score of 43.

10: Trinidad and Tobago

The fourth most corrupt nation in the Caribbean is Trinidad and Tobago, according to the TI ranks and score, with a global rank of 78 and a score of 41.

11: Guyana

The third most corrupt nation in the Caribbean is Guyana, according to TI, with a rank of 93 globally and a score of 37.

12: Dominican Republic

The second most corrupt nation in the Caribbean named is the Dominican Republic, with a rank globally of 129thand a score of 30.

13: Haiti

Haiti again took the title of most corrupt nation in the Caribbean with a rank of 161 globally and a score of just 20.

  1. Yep- Trump had one thing right when he referred to this place. Beautiful country in places- well, places where humans haven’t been. The government is either so blindingly corrupt, or stupid that nothing good will ever come for the overall outlook of this poor little island. It’s people will always be the bottom of the pile in the eyes of it’s leaders- ALL of which have proven to be total swines. Well, they are your swines. What will you do with them?
