Haiti Recognizes Cuban Support in Education

Imagen activaHavana, Dec 3 (Prensa Latina) Haitian professionals educated in Cuba on Monday appreciated the opportunity afforded by the island to thousands of his countrymen to study here in technical schools and universities.

Members of the Association of Haitian Professionals trained in Cuba (Aphfc) delivered to the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) a merit badge of honor dedicated to the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, for providing thousands of them vocational training in this country.

The award recognizes the traditional brotherhood between the two Caribbean nations and expressed gratitude to the Cuban people and their continued acts of solidarity.

Aphfc representatives also gave a plaque to the office responsible for the care of foreign students of International Relations Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Roberto Gonzalez, by the care and support provided to them in the years of study.

Vice president of ICAP, Elio Gamez, expressed the pride of the Cuban leaders by Haitian students who have taken advantage of opportunities and became professionals in the service of their people.

At present, about 400 Haitians are studying here, and from 1961 to date, 154 000 students have graduated.

During his recent visit to Cuba, from November 27 to 29, the President of Haiti, Michel Martelly, thanked the solidarity with his country and signed several agreements in areas such as health and education.
