PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) – President Michel Martelly left Haiti on Tuesday to attend the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development conference will focus on sustainable development through institutional frameworks and the emerging green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication.
According to the National Palace, President Martelly will take the opportunity to participate in several bilateral meetings during which he will discuss with international partners development issues in Haiti and efforts to create a more livable Haiti and planet Earth.
Hundreds of heads of states will attend the conference but key leaders such as U.S. President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have dampened the event with their absences.
