Haiti President Criticizes Political Opponents at Project Launch for Mechanics-Added COMMENTARY By Haitian-Truth

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (sentinel.ht) – President Michel Martelly participated in the launching of a development project to provide one month of training for informal mechanics in the capital city but it was disparaging comments made against political opponents and the president’s statement, “what I decide is what will be done”, that made the headlines.

President Michel Martelly on Thursday was at the cocation institution, Professional School JB Damier, where the Development Project of Sub-Rail Mechanics of Port-au-Prince was launched.

The ceremony was attended by among others, the Secretary of State for Vocational Training, Marina Gourgue, and the Director of the National Institute of Vocational Training (INFP), Rose Magareth Beaulière.

The objective of the pilot project, said to be dear to the Head of State, is to strengthen the capacity of 260 professionals in the informal sector, for better production in automotive mechanics, particularly electricity, air conditioning and sheetmetal under the patronage of the Presidency.

President Martelly took the opportunity of the wonderous occasion to launch a political attack against opponents, saying they are unable to find people to protest on the streets with them, although Haiti had seen 5 days on end of multiple protests including a notable protest on Wednesday at the Ministry of Justice where police broke up a sit-in with tear gas.

Martelly also, saying “what I decide is what will be done”, was a point that annoyed many in the political class. Students who received the program, some criticized the fact that the training would not lead to jobs.

President Martelly is right when he says these vocal opponents cannot put more than a few hundred on the streets to protest.

However, his government’s arrogance, and refusal to deal with certain basic problems, could eventually result in a reversal of his massive support among Haiti’s majority.

  1. I do not care how undemocratic it sounds. everyone was silence when Preval ran the country. However, they all have something to say now that we are actually seeing something tangible being done in Haiti. It is all over YouTube. Things are getting done. Investment is coming. Development is coming. People are working. Haiti is building beauty all over and rapidly. Mirebalais is said to have the worlds largest solar-powered Hospital in the world. I don’t doubt criticism is valid against Martelly. However, these criticism are not from the heart. It is not because they care about Haiti it is because they cant wait for reelection instead of completing their jail sentences they escape and run for the senate. They fight in parliament so the entire world can see what kind of politicians the poorest country in the Americas produce. Then they support Dominicans like Jean Max Bellerive…They say that Martelly is a Duvalierist. asked them have they done better than Duvaliers since Duvalier left? They are using the hungry people of Haiti to pretend they are against Martelly in return for food. I am not pro-Martelly. I am pro-Progress in Haiti and I am seeing progress. It is about time that Haitians cut their own sugar canes again! It is about time we die on our own soil again. We must return to glory again and beyond that! Their is a reason why Martelly is arrogant. It is almost impossible not to be with these idiots. Noticed all the early Parliament systems in early Haiti’s history have caused immense problems for the Head of state. This is History. Just look at who was president and what kind of problems these unpatriotic-parliamentary morons caused. Why do you think Francios Duvalier saved the country some money and made Haiti Unicameral? Instead of paying people for protest just spend the money feeding our poor children. The interpellation of Laurent Lamothe??? They should be arresting these idiots under a Haitian-Patriot act! How bout arresting them? but noooo they are immune! immunity should not exist for anyone before your own constitution. It should only apply when you go to other nations.
