HOUSTON — The people of Haiti have been hit hard between an earthquake, hurricane and now a cholera outbreak, but they’re getting some much-needed help from Galveston.
A U.S Coast Guard cutter is leaving Wednesday to head to Haiti. The dauntless and its crew will help with relief efforts and patrols.
The beleaguered country is in desperate need of help.
Health officials confirmed Tuesday that the first case of cholera has been found in Port Au Prince, up until now, the epidemic had not hit the crowded capital city where many people still live in tents.

Sounds good.
But the Coast Guard orders are simple and straight forward. Intercept and return any Haitians caught trying to flee their country.
The suggestion that this is a humanitarian mission is cynical.
Cubans can swim ashore in Miami and be eating burgers in Macdonalds within a few hours.
Haitians are confined to Krome Detention Center or illegally – instantly – repatriated at sea.
Tell me this isn’t racist!!
