FLASH – FLASH – FLASH NUMBER 2 MAN KIDNAPPED WITH COMPANION-Updated 12-10

2300 hours December 8, 2011

At around 9 PM  Thursday Edouard Baussan, the number two man at UNIBANK, was kidnapped. With Baussan, at the time, was Gilbert Santiague, a local businesswoman. A ransom of $300,000 was demanded.

Cell phone technology is playing a part in the investigation. DIGICEL says that Santiague was with Baussan at the time of the crime.

The demand of only $300,000 for such a high-level target might be an indication that there is some other message here. This is especially true when kidnappers grabbed the Peoples’ Republic of China’s representative a couple of days ago.

Taking such high-level, high-risk victims could be a part of an effort to embarrass Haiti,  or, more specifically, Martelly and his government.

AS OF 10:04 PM, Baussan has been released- no word on Gilbert Santiague.

UPDATED 10:30 PM  Glibert Santiague has also been released

  1. Now the ransom demand has been increased to $3,000,000 at noon today.

This is a game and not a real kidnap.

How can you possibly expect to collect the ransom?

There is a message here and we must fear for the ultimate safety of the victims.

  2. Agreed. We may never see these people again.Ransom paid, or no ransom paid. Little difference. These Chimere are walking to different music.During Duvaliers there was no kidnap.

  3. The most amazing thing is Parliament has nothing better to do than investigate nationality of government officials and totally shutdown government while protecting one of there own who happens to have been elected despite his criminal background.

  4. It is Saturday and there has been no progress.

And still no comment in the international media, a truly stunning situation when one realizes that the Peoples’ Republic of China ambassador was kidnapped, and then Edouard Baussan, one of Haiti’s most powerful bankers was kidnapped with a friend.

This is a tremendous set back for Haiti in its effort to draw foreign investment.

I do not believe Martelly cares. From what my Dominican associates tell me, he has taken something like $40 millions from a major reconstruction deal involving Bellrive and three projects.

  5. One of the kidnappers was captured in Martissant after being shot and badly wounded.

A day after the crime embassy officials had photos of two of the criminals. These were photos of two men who had escaped from the National Prison after January 12, 2010’s earthquake.

Some suggest that they were working for Preval at the time.

Perhaps we will learn who they were/are involved with now.

The crime, and area where the victims were held, reflect earlier kidnaps, according to people involved with the investigations.
