As part of its migration control operations for illegal aliens in Dominican territory, the Directorate General of Migration (DGM), informs to have arrested 555 Haitians without legal migration documents, in different communities of the Province of Puerto Plata (North). After the process of identification, the Haitians were transferred to the border post of Dajabón to be registered and returned to Haiti

The DGM states that the intervention team participating in this operation, which lasted nearly 8 hours, was composed of inspectors and agents of the DGM with the support of the military personnel of the North Command of the Dominican Air Army and representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office. The arrests of our compatriots took place in the communities of Los Cangrejos, Los Muñoz, Los Pérez, Los Charamicos and La Unión, as well as different sectors of the municipalities of Sosua, Imbert and Montellano.

It should be noted that in the past, arrests of persons in an irregular migration situation were carried out during random patrol checks, a practice that is still in force, but it now seems that the Dominican Republic is multiplying larger operations that are carried out after work of intelligence services (to locate undocumented migrants) in communities where citizen denunciations have been received on the presence of undocumented Haitians…

Lieutenant General Máximo William Muñoz Delgado, Director General of the DGM, recalls that these operations will continue throughout the territory of the Dominican Republic in a surprise manner in other provinces of the country, to continue to locate irregular foreigners who violate the provisions of the law of migration 285-04.

In recent weeks, the DGM has carried out similar operations in Boca Chica, San José de Ocoa, Samana, La Vega, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Santiago Rodriguez, Espaillat, La Altagracia, Santiago and Santo Domingo, where hundreds of Haitians in an irregular situation were arrested and returned to Haiti.
