Haiti - FLASH : An assault rifle of the PNH used during a bank robbery in Santo Domingo

The Galil IWI ACE rifle used by a group of individuals during the robbery of the Banco Popular branch (at the Hiper Uno supermarket in La Isabelita, Santo Domingo East) which stole more than 5 million pesos, was formally identified as belonging to the National Police of Haiti (PNH)

“This information has already been confirmed and verified,” said Dominican Police spokesman Frank Félix Durán, who also said that among the people involved in the hold-up there were at least two Haitians.

On Saturday, after the robbery, the attackers fled the scene, firing into the air before being confronted by members of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (DICRIM) in the Vietnam neighborhood in Los Mina. During an intense shootout, six policemen were injured. The assailant who used the assault rifle at the time of the attack died in the shooting. Two accomplices were arrested including a possession of a 12-gauge rifle taken from one of the bank’s security agents.

One of the seriously injured police officers died Sunday morning as a result of his injuries.

A Galil IWI ACE rifle, with four chargers, an unidentified pistol and a grenade and a certain amount of money that was not disclosed was seized at the scene.
