Many believe we have arrived at the present moment, in time, by accident.

This is not the case.

For the past year, perhaps 18 months, President Martelly, in coordination with Sophia, the Mayard-Pauls, a few other Palace insiders, and, some say,  Pamela White, the American ambassador, have set a course that has seen the Haitian Ship of State founder on the rocks of today’s crisis.

Last fall, Martelly’s Pirate Ship finally struck its false colors and ran the Skull and Crossbones up the flagstaff. He created a false situation in which a Mickey Mouse committee of 11 people decided it was time for Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe to step down.

In actual fact, Michel Martelly betrayed his good friend Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, and the Haitian people,  proving the old saying – “There are no friends in politics.”

In a brazen move, one member of the committee – Evans Paul – was named Prime Minister – a true insult for the Haitian people.

Hardly what anyone would term an “arm’s length” situation!

To make things worse, Evan Paul cancelled Lamothe’s programs, with a comment that these were simply “show Biz.”  The peoples’ outcry, at cancellation of Lamothe’s feeding programs, saw these reinstated.

Since then, the Nation has disintegrated. Security is just a word, as drive-by shootings, and home invasions are every-day occurrences. The cost-of-living has skyrocketed.

The long-held belief that Martelly would be followed by his good friend, Laurent Lamothe, was effectively shattered when, in an outburst, Martelly said he could not tolerate the threat of Lamothe arresting the drug dealers, who were his friends. La Familia was a case in point as Martelly decried this criminal’s arrest for drug-dealing, kidnapping and other societal flaws.

La Familia was released from jail in a courtroom crowded with his victims, and their families. Perhaps the Americans will finally solve this problem, after Pamela White is replaced by a new man. The Americans in Washington were stunned by Martelly’s actions.

A game of Smoke and Mirrors is now being played, all in an effort to block Lamothe’s discharge or, totally derail the electoral process.

There is no constitutionality, to the situation.

The President of our Court of Superior Accounts has betrayed the Nation. He has been caught changing documentation.  Bribes have been paid.

The CEP is controlled by undemocratic elements. Bribes have been paid.

Now, we are seeing a chain of last-minute challenges to Lamothe’s candidacy as Martelly mounts an 11th Hour effort to destroy the Prime Minister’s  chance to run for the Presidency.

The International Community’s naïve concept of free-and-fair elections can only be a reality if the world sends enough observers to carefully audit the entire process.
All candidates should receive a discharge.

Let the Haitian people decide who they really want in a truly free-and-fair-election.
Otherwise, Haiti will be the first democratically created Narco State in the United Nations.

Much of the blame for this will rest directly on the doorstep of the American Embassy.
