WHO predicts Haiti cholera cases to top 500,000 by year end, disease to become endemic-Added COMMENTARY By Haitian-Truth

Washington Post: GENEVA — The World Health Organization says the number of cholera cases in Haiti is expected to exceed 500,000 by the end of 2011.

The U.N. health agency says some 470,000 cases and 6,600 deaths have so far been recorded.

WHO cholera expert Claire-Lise Chaignat told reporters in Geneva on Friday that the disease was also likely to become endemic in the Caribbean nation.

No cases of cholera had been documented in Haiti before the outbreak a year ago, months after a devastating earthquake hit the country.

Chaignat says WHO is examining whether a large-scale cholera vaccination campaign is possible in Haiti.

The original estimate was 1,100,000 so one wonders at their bookkeeping methods.

Also, the total deaths seems to be stuck at 6,600 as if we were driving a car whose speedometer broke at 6,600 and goes no further, no matter how many miles we travel.

I cannot believe we have lost only 6,600 people.

This is a myth.

This is a lie.

The vaccination program will help and could have helped a great deal more had it not been blocked – a year ago – by President Preval and Doctor Larsen, his Minister of Health.
