Haiti - Politics : Moïse visits the Caracol Hydroelectric Plant

On Thursday, as part of the implementation of the national grid, the President Jovenel Moïse, accompanied inter alia by the Fritz Cayot the Minister for Public Works, visited the Caracol Hydroelectric Plant, in Grande rivière du Nord.

The Head of State wanted to note the state of the infrastructures of this power plant of a capacity of 800 Kw built in 1986 and in total dysfunction for several decades. Various rehabilitation works are planned to restart this power plant before the remaining 22 months 1/2 months of the electrification process of Haiti 24/24 hours as he promised it to the population.

“I have noticed that the plants have no real problems causing their dysfunction only the absence of maintenance and repair work,” stressed the Head of State, who however deplored the state of infrastructures of the Electricity of Haiti (EDH) which produces according to him, only about a quarter of its real capacity of production.

The Head of State promised to repair and modernize all hydroelectric and thermal power plant of the EDH and to rebuild certain grid within the deadline.

The Caracol Hydroelectric Plant is the fifth infrastructure of this kind already visited by President Jovenel Moïse, out of a total of 7. The Plants of Délugé (Artibonite) and Cayes-Jacmel (South East) will be soon…
