It is so-called religious people like demokrazi kras that make me an atheist, at least agnostic. Haiti’s situation makes me lean towards atheism though. The Duvaliers killed far more people than Aristide or Lavalas ever did. That is absolutely beyond dispute.
Before Aristide is arrested, arrest the perfidious Baby Doc. He and/ or his govt. Killed far more.
Lets stop with all of the negativity. First off, Jean-Claude’s crimes are already being tested in courts, with international legal teams on both sides sorting through facts.
Aristide was cowardly enough to require diplomatic immunity via his use of a Diplomatic Passport- Duvalier came with an expired simple Haitian Passport.
Fair is fair- Let us see if Aristide’s crimes can be tested in the same courts as Duvalier. Let us have the facts, not emotional parroting of what others have said before us
Let us stop making faux comparisons. Jean “Clod'”‘s crimes are far more serious and far greater in number than Aristides. This is not negativity, this is sheer fact. Baby Doc’s only defense is whether the statute of limitations has elapsed, hardly a great defense, at least morally.
Aristide was kept away by every subterfuge, every trick that the US and France and their flunkey allies could muster as evidenced by the latest wikileaks re Altoona made public by Norway’s Aftenposten newspaper. Jean “Clod” , with the connivance and tacit support of France and the US, was allowed to fly back. Don’t tell me they knew nothing about the former tinhorn dictator coming back. Aristide did make mistakes and many of his followers committed crimes, but this all pales in comparison to the crackdown on Lavalas supporters after both anti-Aristide coups not to mention the years 1957-198. Aristide is no saint and arguably a very bad politician ( at least for antagonizing the elite with so much wreckless rhetoric) but it is odious to compare him with either Divalye.
