Some suggest this is because Aristide holds embarrassing dossiers on members of the Clinton administration who drank from Aristide’s cocaine laden trough.
Why then would the Kerry State Department set out to create conditions in which Aristide will – yet again – gain control?
Without exception, the American State Department has made an ongoing series of wrong decisions, with regard to Haiti.
Currently, the State Department did its best to make another by pressing for the acceptance of Leopold Berlanger as President of the new CEP. Visa cancellation, the old American tool, to generate Democracy, was used with vigor. Visas were threatened should those involved fail to place Berlanger in the CEP’s Presidency.
Like many members of the GNB/Group 184 movements, credited with the 2004 removal of Aristide, Berlanger did not have the Nation’s interests, or Democracy at heart. Like the other major GNB/Group184 leadership, he had economic goals as his focus. These people use Democracy as a front for gaining monopolistic economic control, with a disregard for National interests. Every government has a group of these maneuvering for advantage.
One could question the financial dealings of Berlanger, and his wife, during the last 10 years as they reaped a fortune from government contracts. For example, Leopold’s wife obtained a huge contract to feed the PNH officers, even though she had no experience in catering. As a result of this couple’s attack on Haiti’s economy they have built at least 5 expensive houses on the mountain above Petion-Ville and filled their bank accounts.
The fact that Berlanger owns a major radio station – VISION 2000 – now an anti-Martelly voice, should have disqualified him for a seat on the CEP, let alone see the United States pressing for his appointment to its presidency.
The CEP is supposed to be unbiased!
In all fairness, Leopold Berlanger should be dropped from the CEP for these simple reasons that make it impossible for him to act in Haiti’s interests, instead of his own.
Now that the natives have rebelled, and failed in their duty to place Berlanger in the Presidency… will they now, as promised, lose their American visas?
The vote was for Emmanuel Menard, a highly qualified and committed Haitian has now been confirmed as President of the CEP.
Everyone must now accept the fact that Haiti has a CEP and work with this to create an environment in which good elections can be held. Unfortunately, this mitigates against the American position that requires their control of Haiti’ s supposedly independent CEP. John Kerry – and his surrogates – may still have some dirty tricks up their sleeves.
The Americans believed they controlled Berlanger and it would follow that they would control the CEP and by following this reasoning, the elections. Of course, they would end up with a real surprise when Aristide was found to be pulling the strings of a Leopold Berlanger puppet.
It is time for everyone to pull together. If the Kerry team really wants to break the State Department’s abysmal record for making wrong decisions, with regard to Haiti, it must force everyone, the Martelly team, Andy Apaid, Leopold Berlanger and their Novel Haiti concept, plus all others, to act in Haiti’s best interests and not for the satisfaction of their own economic goals. Aristide remains a constant threat to any hope for stability.
The peasants are not as ignorant as many believe. They recognize the past elections for what they are, crimes against their own personal well-being. They will not accept any more of these charades and will rebel – perhaps violently – if someone attempt a replay of the past.
For once, let us deal with the peoples’ desires. Haiti’s ignored majority has simple interests. It wants security, school for their children, food, work and , perhaps, some medical services.
