Yele Haiti-Fresh Vegetables Delivered Weekly to 2,000 Orphans

PORT-AU-PRINCE, January 25, 2011: Yéle announced plans in November to double the size of our Nutrition for Kids program, and we have now reached that goal and are providing 2,000 orphans a week with fresh vegetables grown by peasant farmers who are part of the Afè Nèg Combite (ANC) cooperative based in Kenscoff, near Port-au-Prince. There are now 35 orphanages in the program, and they receive a basket with between 150 and 200 lbs of vegetables every Saturday (some larger orphanages get more than one basket). The orphanages are located in Port-au-Prince, Kenscoff, Croix-des-Bouquets, Leogane and Tomazeau and range in size from 40 to 200 children.
