VietNamNet Bridge – Viettel, one of the three largest mobile operators in Vietnam, has proposed to buy 70 percent of Teleco, a state-owned telecommunication company, in the Republic of Haiti.
According to a Haitian news agency, Viettel’s $59 million offer is the only tendered document that meets their conditions. Offers from the Haiti Central Bank and two GSM networks – Digicel Haiti and Comcel, were rejected.
Vietel’s plan comprises the establishment of a 2000 optical cable network to expand Internet service to remote towns in Haiti.

According to Wikipedia, Teleco is one of the three telecom networks in Haiti, the country with 8.1 million people and per capita income of around $1317 in 2008.

Nice to see Viet Nam did its research and managed to raise our per capita income from around $250 to $1317. With a few taps on a keyboard and they have already save the nation from financial disaster.
Viettel is said to be one of the largest MOBILE OPERATORS in Viet Nam. Do we need another mobile operator or one that it familiar with landline facilities?
