Haiti - Technology : Towards computer interconnection of 10 Departmental Directorates of Education

As part of the modernization of system of information management, the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training wishes interconnect the 10 Departmental Directorates of Educations (DDE) of the country with the central office of the Ministry. To this end, the technicians from the “Digitalkap Technology” company responsible for the implementation of several networks through DDE Southeast, are deployed in the field for more than a week to install these systems.

A computer lab with a dozen computers and a central server have been installed to the DDE Southeast, while technicians continue installing other networks in the offices of school districts, particularly in the municipalities of Belle Anse, Bainet and Marigot for the interconnection. To cope with the problems of electricity, alternative power systems, solar power will be installed.

Secretaries, data entry operators and inspectors from different districts of the Departmental Directorate of Education of South-East have already been trained on information and management modules. This training is funded by the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AECID) in partnership with the Haitian government through the Ministry of Education.

The engineer Ludger François, member of the Unit Information Technology and Communication for Education (UTICE) stressed that the new system will not only allow better secure the information, but also reduce staff movements of departmental offices to route files to their supervisory ministry in Port-au-Prince.

For Fernand Joseph, the principal inspector to DDE South East, this new system will allow inspectors to do a better job. For his part, Ducarmel Lunes, planner, and responsible for the monitoring of activities of program of restructuring and modernization of services of the educational offer in the Southeast, a structure of the AECID, said that thanks to this system, the information will now be shared in real time.
