STORIES ARE CHANGING LIKE SECONDS ON A CLOCK AS EVERYONE TAKES A NON-STORY AND CREATES A NATIONAL EMERGENCY OUT OF THE NATURAL DEATH OF JUDGE JEAN-SERGE JOSEPH
Fact: Jean-Serge Joseph had experienced heart problems, in the past, and had undergone heart surgery to rectify problems. He was diagnosed for chronic high blood pressure and an ongoing potential for a stroke – in Canada, by Canadian experts. All of this will be verified by the Canadian autopsy.
Fact: Jean-Serge Joseph experienced a medical emergency and was transported to the Bernard Mevs Hospital.
Fact: The prognosis came true and Jean-Serge Joseph had a stroke and this was fatal.
Fact: Judge Jean-Serge Joseph had responsibility for dossier on Sophia and Olivier Martelly’s alleged criminal activity.
Fact: Judge Jean-Serge Joseph had requested permission to question a number of present and past government officials. Nothing magic here. That was his job.
Fact: Jean-Serge Joseph was a Canadian citizen which raises questions about his appointment as a judge, or his responsibility for so important a dossier.
At this point we depart from Truth and venture into an ever-changing quicksand of rumour.
Rumour: Jean-Serge Joseph was killed by the doctors at Bernard Mevs Hospital.
Complaint: A doctor gave a press conference in which he explained the basic facts. Judge Jean-Serge Joseph was brought to the hospital He was treated for a stroke. Made s comfortable as possible and died. Doctor said he could not say anything else without family’s permission. Doctor said this was done because mob of journalists were pressing with same questions. So he held a press conference, as would be done in Canada, the USA, France or elsewhere. Anyone, familiar with media scene in Haiti, can visualize several dozen “journalists” – some who can neither read nor write, many who have not had a bath in weeks – shoving their $20.00 tape recorders forward while thinking of the food that might be served at the end of a press conference. I should say that some – like Pierre Raymond Dumas can read and write, but don’t take showers often.
Rumour: To serve as option to hospital responsibility – He was poisoned by the Martrelly/Lamothe team.
Claim: People claim Judge Jean-Serge Joseph told some associates he was pressured by people close to the power. This is not useful because none who claim to have been told can give a name to anyone who pressured the judge.
Claim: Judge Jean-Serge Joseph claims to have attended a meeting somewhere, perhaps Garry Lissade’s office or an office at Planification.
There seem to be no witnesses, even though dozens were present, at both locations, during the time slot mentioned, including a Cuban TV crew at Planification.
Why would a judge agree to meet with the “enemy” when this action would invalidate the entire action? Why didn’t he take someone with him. Why didn’t he record the conversations? Why didn’t he do a lot of things, if any of this happened?
Probably, because they didn’t happen and he was simply starting a rumour that would justify his already planned departure for Canada.
Like Claudi Gassant, of Jean Dominique fame, he was preparing an excuse for a face-saving retreat.
Nothing wrong with this.
Fact: His wife really knows nothing of the details, as demonstrated, when first contacted. Perhaps, she was not close to her husband and he never related the facts, as he related them to others. As we understand it, Judge Jean-Serge Joseph was close to his wife and she knows nothing, because there was really nothing for him to tell her. He was “pressured by people close to the power.” Nothing unusual here. This is Haiti. Could be the Mayard-Pauls. Might be Bebe St. Remy, Sophia’s father.
Fact: Unfortunately, people like Moise Jean-Charles used the death of Judge Jean-Serge Joseph as a platform for political turmoil. Although the body had already been shipped to Canada, Moise Jean-Charles claimed to have seen the body, decaying. His efforts saw a huge demonstration, with death and injury, for which he should be arrested. His actions were those of a person who yells FIRE!!! In a crowded cinema. They are criminal.
Fact: The Haitian media, with specific focus of Lillian Pierre-Paul, Valery Numa, Marie-Luce Bonhomme, and a host of others, have generated a false wave of anti- Martelly/Lamothe sentiment in a criminally irresponsible manner.
Fact: It isn’t a matter of Freedom of the Press. It is a problem of Responsibility of the Press. In any other nation, these rumour-mongers would face justice under the Criminal and Civil Codes in effect. There are checks-and-balances in civilized countries to protect the nation and its citizens.
One must believe in the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny… to believe that a skilled, respected, Canadian-trained legal expert would violate one of the legal communities basic rule, namely, you do not meet with peoplee outside of the legal structure. To do so effectively voids the entire procedure and destroys your credibility. Having said that, only an idiot would believe that the judge would consider such a meeting, without taking someone with him, or recording the activities.
There is a really simple solution:
Bring a top American polygraph expert to Haiti and ask a few simple Yes or No questions.
1. Was there a meeting – Yes or No?
2. Do you believe your stories – spread via the media – are true? – Yes or No?
3. Was your coverage spontaneous of was it funded by cash from Aristide? Yes or No?
We already know the answer to Question 3 – in some specific cases.
