Ti Sony finds prison for political asylum

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) – Sony “Ti Sony” Thelusma, who filed the complaint against former President Jean Bertrand Aristide found himself in prison on Friday after attempting to seek political asylum at the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince.

According to sources, Ti Sony and 6 others went to the U.S. Embassy for asylum and protection. The group attempted to demonstrate with a sit-in in the embassy offices when, according to one source, American officials called the Delmas police to pick them up.

Ti Sony and his comrades have now found “protection” in the walls of the police station in Delmas 33. They say it was they, themselves who called police to pick them up.

“We were at the U.S. Embassy because we received many threats for the complaints against former President Aristide. Finally we called the police to protect us,” said Ti Sony to a Haiti Press Network reported who contacted him by phone.
