Rumors, good and bad, are always swirling, like a whirlwind, through Haiti’s perceptions.
Last week saw the revival of “Evans Paul for Prime Minister,” a disgusting and frightening concept that only goes to demonstrate that Haiti has not progressed very far along the road since Aristide stole our opportunity for Democracy in 1990.
One must review the past to understand the future.
Over 54% of our population were not born when Aristide, Evans Paul, and their gang started this game of Dictatorship via Democracy in 1990.
In December, of 1990, as the clock ran down towards the December 16 polling day, it became apparent that Aristide had purchased the entire CEP. Things were moving toward the arrest of CEP members, and a cancellation of the election. Realizing he would be destroyed, Aristide took immediate action.
Aristide had a bomb set at his December 6 Petionville rally.
Many were killed.
Dozens horribly injured.
Dozens lost arms and legs.
There was an immediate surge of sympathy that eliminated the chance of CEP arrest and election cancellation.
On election day Lavalas voters intimidated non-Lavalas voters (As they would in years to come) Frightened people went home without voting.
Then, at 11 A.M., with many hours until the polling stations were scheduled to close, Evens Paul and the French Ambassador declared Aristide the winner, over the illegal FM station withing French embassy grounds, and Evans Paul put the Mob on the street.
Only the suicidal would challenge this.
President Jimmy Carter and Robert McNamara saw what was happening and held a press conference at the El Rancho. Evans Paul said they should be quiet or he would burn them. This brave American team ran for the airport, abandoning their luggage, and flew out of Haiti.
Then Aristide was declared winner with fewer than 5% of the vote counted. According to a survey commissioned by Aristide- with a Montreal-based firm – less that half-a-percent of the vote had been tabulated when he was declared winner.
In 1992 I saw unopened ballot boxes in St. Marc and undelivered ballot boxes for La Gonave, at the Marine Haitien base, in Bizonton.
History says he received 67% of 300,000 votes cast which is not much of a mandate from a voter registration of 3,500,000. Hardly the devastating, landslide victory that is continually referenced by media writers.
And Aristide was not the first Democratically Elected president in Haitian history. There were 5 others, including Francois Duvalier who won with over 60% in a real election.
Evans Paul was looked to then, for his control of the Mob. He used the Mob as the tool to guarantee Aristide the election. Aristide and Lavalas owe Evens Paul for the base upon which the Aristide/Preval…. Privert crimes have been built.
And then there was the time a government allowed Evans Paul the opportunity to place his girlfriend as Minister of Commerce. When she didn’t steal enough for him Evans Paul went to her office and beat the crap out of her, another indication of his concept of Democracy!
Michel Martelly turned to Evans Paul as a controller of the Mob.
When the PETROCARIBE commission was formed in the Senate, made up entirely of Lavalas Senators, Aristide asked Senator Beauplan to leave any investigation of Evans Paul, for the millions he stole from PETROCARIBE, out of the dossier.
You won’t find Evans Paul with the other targets!
What role did Evans Paul play in placing the Mob on the streets during the recent wave of destructive chaos?
No matter what the case may be, Evans Paul should be relegated to the trash can of history, as just another unsavory criminal from Haiti’s past.
Democracy has no chance to succeed if we return to these Lavalas people.
EVAN PAUL WAS/IS PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ARISTIDE’S 1990 ELECTORAL COUP.
BECAUSE OF THIS EVANS PAUL IS PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ARISTIDE, PREVAL, PRIVERT CRIMES THAT FOLLOWED.
WE DON’T NEED ANYMORE OF THAT AS ARISTIDE MOVES FOR CONTROL AGAIN.
