The Government support to 200% the development of hill lakes

Haiti - Agriculture : The Government support to 200% the development of hill lakes

Tuesday, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe accompanied by Senator Hyppolite Melius [Northwest] and Brother Francklin Armand have discussed in the Foyer of the Incarnation in Petite Place Cazeau, of the National Program of Hill Lakes (Programme National des Lacs Collinaires – PNLC). Following this meeting the Prime Minister and Brother Armand gave a joint press conference.

Speaking, Brother Franklin Armand declared “[…] Today is a great honor for the Catholic Church in Haiti and all the other churches, working for the welfare of the Haitian people, to welcome the Prime Minister and Senator Melius [. ..] the problem of water is a very important thing, because we believe that if we ourselves do not know how to manage water in Haiti, it is the rainwater that will manage us. The Government Martelly-Lamothe showed his interest in this program, and this is what explains its presence here with Senator Melius who fights to solve the problem of water in the Northwest for farmers, so we say thank you to the Prime Minister Lamothe for his presence and we have the honor to pass him the microphone.”

Speaking in turn, the Prime Minister after thanking Brother Armand and Senator Hyppolite Melius declared “[…] Today, we are here to support the National Program of Hill Lakes, which is funded by the public treasury but also, to make a visit and understand how things are at the level of hill lakes […]

The importance of hill lakes, it is not only the management of water and its proper use, but water also allows to develop several other sectors and to fight against food insecurity…

[…] we have 150 million Gourdes on the budget, that we have unlocked to be able to meke 18 hill lakes, and one of the reasons that the Senator of Northwest is with me, it is for he can ensure that quickly, we can continue the nstallation of hill lakes in Jean Rabel […]

[…] with the presentation of hill lakes that we have seen today, it put me n a good position to be able to support the program, and that we broaden it, because it is a program that includes over 190 hill lakes and we have a plan to make 150 others.

I think that at State level, of Government, it is necessary to do what we can, to install more lakes of this type, that bring life, reduce disease, […] allow to feed through the breeding of Tilapia […] provides water for livestock. Then what’s best is that this water can be filtered and provide villagers, peasants drinking water […]

The Government supports this program to 200% and we will do everything we can to build more lakes, we will work into the budget and with partners and friends of Haiti, to make them aware, we will also work with the IDB, that has a budget for the construction of lakes. As the Ministry of Planning, I’ll have meetings with them in the coming days to sensitize them on the necessity of the construction of these lakes.

[…] I want to compliment all those present, Brother Armand with your whole team, you do a colossal work for the welfare of the Haitian people and for that, I thank you, I congratulate you, because it is not everyone who has this love and who make what you do […] I encourage you to continue, you can rely on me, on the Government and the Ministry of Planning for this program does not die. The contrary, we need more hill lakes in the country […] also we just visited a machine of ultra-filtration of water from a lake, which is very impressive [in Pandiassou, 5000 liters of drinking water per hour].”
