BALTIMORE — Prior to Friday’s series opener against the Red Sox, infielder Miguel Tejada presented Project Medishare with a check for $25,000 from the Orioles Charitable Foundation to assist in its relief efforts in Haiti. The morning after the earthquake, Tejada was busy tracking down food and water supplies to be sent to Port-au-Prince. He personally delivered the items to victims in Haiti and has since sought additional funds for the efforts. He will be donating additional money to Project Medishare based on performance benchmarks, such as hits and home runs, although the final details are still in the works.

The on-field recipient of the check was Dr. Barth Green, who founded Project Medishare for Haiti Inc. along with Dr. Arthur Fournier in 1994. Project Medishare has forged partnerships with physicians and allied health professionals who believe in social justice and that everyone has the right to quality health care and development services.

Since the events of Jan. 12, Project Medishare has treated more than 20,000 patients and saved thousands of lives at its field hospital. Its efforts include sustaining existing programs of health care and education in the Central Plateau of Haiti and raising funds to build the country’s first national critical-care hospital.
