Taiwan ships 200 tons of rice to Haiti-Added COMMENTARY By Haitian-Truth

Taipei, June 25 (CNA) Two hundred tons of rice donated by Taiwan’s government and a local non-government organization (NGO) were shipped to Haiti Friday to help people affected by an earthquake that devastated the Caribbean nation early this year.

Liu Chi-chun, president of Taiwan Root Medical Peace Corps (TRMPC) , said the Council of Agriculture (COA) agreed to donate 200 tons of rice from the government stock to Haiti at the request of his organization.

The TRMPC has also helped raise NT$1.5 million (US$46,875) to finance shipping costs from Taichung Port in central Taiwan to Haiti, Liu said.

“The rice, packed in 10 containers, was delivered earlier in the day after passing a quality examination by COA officials,” Liu said.

Since Haiti was battered by a magnitude-7 earthquake in January, Taiwan has offered humanitarian aid, including cash and medical aid, to its Caribbean ally, Liu said.

Over the past months, TRMPC volunteers have traveled to Haiti on many occasions to offer medical and health care services, Liu added. (By Sunrise Huang and Sofia Wu) enditem/bc

Taiwan has been one of Haiti’s best friends since it established an embassy in Port-au-Prince during 1954. one of the first nations to establish diplomatic relations with the Republic of China after it separated from the mainland in 1949.

Over the years, Taiwan has initiated many, many large and small scale projects throughout the nation.

Since Rene Preval became president, he has sent a steady stream of emissaries to Communist China in a potential effort to switch recognition from Taiwan to the Peoples’ Republic of China. The cynical  Preval has absolutely no loyalty and talks of a $200,000,000 cash payment for this betrayal. We must keep a close watch on this game. Preval might slip a fast one into the scene before anyone can do anything to prevent this infamy.

Haiti’s interests are best served by a continued loyalty to its old friends in the Republic of China.

  1. Unfortunate that one day we will awaken to read the Taiwanese are out and the other China is in.

    Preval can do this with not telling anybody.

    He has no friends…other than money.

    He has sold TELECO to VIETTEL for money under the table.

    Not much left for him to market.
