And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
No one dared
Disturb the sound of silence
What has happened to the Haiti I once knew where each day, at 8 A.M. and 5 P,M, all traffic stopped in the Champs des Mars as my flag, your flag, your children’s flag, the Nation’s flag was raised, and lowered in front of the National Palace?
Pedestrians halted where they were, and turned towards the palace until the ceremony was completed.
Then movement started again.
Respect for the Nation, in the form of its flag.
Respect for others.
Respect for themselves.
Perhaps Patriotism died with those 330,000 we lost at 16:53 January 12, 2010.
Since then, those who “HAVE” simply get more, while those that “HAVE NOTHING” simply die, unnoticed and unremarked. Everything has deteriorated…. education, health, public services, our Standard of Living, as the currency rapidly loses value, manipulated criminally by the banking/business community.
Senators and Deputies, and certain businessmen bleed Planification, Traveaux Public…….. even as President Moise and his Caravan Changman moves forward.
Billions have been made/stolen while the Nation dies.
President Moise wanting to make Long-Term changes in Haiti is really admirable and will be judged – retrospectively – by history, and survivors, as being noteworthy and truly substantial.
Unfortunately, his Presidency is, and will continue to be, under attack – by enemies who do not care for Haiti’s 12,000,000 – for the Moise government’s lack of immediate moves to reduce the frustration and hardship faced by Haiti’s “Have Nots.” This massive, massive majority can/will be influenced, looking to others who will “talk” but deliver nothing but deeper chaos..
Everything in life is a balance, otherwise the small things can outweigh important factors.
While focused upon our President’s big infrastructure projects, President Moise’s team is missing the other, immediate challenges. Parents with starving children need help NOW, so they will benefit from irrigation and solar power in years to come.
Today, May 8, 2019, President Jovenel Moise must be allowed his creation of a new government with a Cabinet of his choice, to serve the Nation, not the personal greed of certain individuals, and elements. Otherwise we are doomed, his government, my government, your government, the Nation’s government might wither and fail, perhaps lasting until the challenges of SCHOOL OPENING.
President Moise can “lose while winning.” Through his own “SOUNDS OF SILENCE.”
The government must COMMUNICATE.
THE PEOPLE ARE LISTENING!
THE PEOPLE, ALL 12,000,000 OF THEM WANT THEIR GOVERNMENT TO SUCCEED.
