The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince has received reports of a crowd of about 130 people at this time who are in front of the Aristide residence in Port-au-Prince, near the U.S. Embassy.  The situation is peaceful so far, but the road is blocked with rocks and burning tires.  The Embassy has advised all personnel to avoid travel on Blvd. 15 Octobre between Canne-a-Sucre and Carrefour Fleuriot. Please remember that demonstrations in Port-au-Prince can arise and escalate quickly, so the Embassy urges all Americans to exercise caution and avoid these areas as much as possible.  Should you find yourself among or near protesters, get out of the area without delay.

We strongly recommend that all U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Haiti enroll in the Department of State’s secure on-line Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).  STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates and makes it easier for the nearest U.S. embassy to contact you in an emergency.
